For the composition of his works for two pianos, Béla Bartók was able to count on the precious collaboration of his wife Ditta Pasztory, a highly talented pianist with whom he gave several concerts. The famous Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion - considered by many scholars to be one of the greatest masterpieces of the great Hungarian composer - was written specifically for this ensemble, while the others are transcriptions of orchestral works. Among them, Suite Op. 4 stands out, a youth work with a rich palette of sounds, in which Bartók included many elements of Hungarian and Transylvanian popular traditions that he collected during his long travels through his country and neighboring countries, the seven fragments of Mikrokosmos, conceived as studies for solo piano, and the exuberant ballet The Miraculous Mandarin. Considered one of the best pianists of his time, Bartók never wrote simple piano reductions, but piano works characterized by extremely careful writing, a very personal style and the use of many technical innovations that he had known thanks to his activities as a composer and pianist. . These works are presented to us with great authority and absolute stylistic mastery by the piano duo formed by Matteo Fossi and Marco Gaggini. As a bonus, the Italian pianists perform the three fragments for two pianos by György Ligeti, a tribute by a Hungarian composer to one of the greatest exponents of the Hungarian musical tradition. Marco Gaggini, piano; Federico Poli and Gianni Giangrasso, percussion.
