Scientist Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) has, to put it mildly, a hot temper. Behind his brilliant record as a researcher in the field of genetic technology lies a painful and almost forgotten past. His ex-girlfriend, also brilliant researcher Betty Ross (Jennifer Connelly), has grown tired of waiting for Bruce to break his emotional block, resigning herself to becoming an interested observer of the scientist's discreet life. From her position as an observer, Betty witnesses an eventful episode of Banner's revolutionary investigation. An explosion occurs and Bruce makes a heroic decision that leads him to save a life... and to remain apparently intact even though his body has absorbed a lethal dose of gamma rays. And yet the effects are felt soon. Diffuse symptoms a day later. Fadings. Banner begins to feel a presence inside him, a strange entity that seems familiar despite everything, a dangerous but darkly attractive being. Meanwhile, a huge, wild and incredibly strong creature, who eventually receives the name Hulk , begins to make appearances sporadically, leaving behind a trail of destruction. Betty is the only one who seems to understand the bond between Bruce and Hulk ; but their attempts to stop the military machine that has been set in motion to catch the monster may come too late to save both man and creature.
