Andreas Lidl was one of the greatest virtuosos of his instrument, the baryton, a string instrument no longer in use, which resembles a cross between a cello and a viola damore. Lidl played in the court orchestra of Count Esterházy (Joseph Haydn's patron) and composed many works for the baryton. A collection of his trios is heard on this album.
