Antonio Francisco Xavier Joseph Soler, born in Spain in 1729, received his first musical instruction thanks to his father, who took him to the Montserrat Abbey, where Soler was encouraged to join the choir at the age of six. Here he learned to play the organ very well and studied composition. This early exposure to religious life may have been what led the young Soler to decide to spend the rest of his life in the church. He became a novice in 1752, a deacon, a priest and a chapel master (the latter position after 1757). When Soler composed these sonatas, in 1760, the new fortepiano was gaining ground and replacing the harpsichord. Pieter-Jan Belder, fortepiano. Opinion. Track list: 1.
