The bicentenary of Richard Wagner's birth fell in 2013, prompting labels around the world to release an incredible number of new and old recordings of his great works. This album contains a wide anthology of his Lieder and can be seen as an elegant and pleasant encore, presenting a series of small songs of wonderfully intimate character, which in a few minutes express the feelings that are often outlined in the course of a endless opera scene. The program includes, among other things, the famous Wesendock-Lieder, both in the original German version and in the Italian edition made by Arrigo Boito, a prominent member of the Milanese Scapigliatura and author of the librettos for Giuseppe Verdi's latest works, Gretchen am Spinnrade, Mignonne and many other little gems. These works are presented to us in the magnificent performance of soprano Michela Sburlati - defined by the New York Times critic as "excellent dramatic soprano" - accompanied by pianist Marco Scolastra. The booklet includes extensive cover notes on the works performed, the original texts, and the biographies of the two performers. Marco Scolastra, piano
