Ricercari nn.1-10, 70, 84 and 89, fantasies nn.30-33, 36, 40, 42, 57 and 59 - Born in 1497 and died in 1543, Francesco da Milano stood out as a lutist and composer at court papal, achieving extraordinary fame throughout Europa that earned him the nickname “divine.” His production for lute was clearly influenced by the vocal style of the time and, above all, by the madrigal, whose complex polyphonic writing finds echo in many of his madrigals and fantasies. These works had a profound influence on the development of Renaissance instrumental music. The protagonist of this album is Sandro Volta, who is also the author of a book that examines the close links between music and poetry in the Renaissance era and is considered one of the greatest specialists in this repertoire, as can be noted by the qualities vocals of his interpretation of these wonderful and melancholic whims for lute. The libretto contains extensive and very interesting cover notes about the composer and the works performed signed by the performer himself.
