The French composer and organist Louis-Nicolas Clérambault was also a good violinist and belonged to a musical dynasty. His style was influenced by the great Italian composers of his time, especially Corelli. Therefore, he wrote his own works with an Italian flavor in French style. In 1705, Clérambault entered court service at the age of 29, gave concerts and wrote cantatas. After Louis XIV died in 1715, the court moved to Paris. Clérembault worked at the royal institution Maison de Saint-Louis in Saint-Cyr-l'École, a refuge for daughters of struggling nobility, founded by Madame de Maintenon, the king's mistress and later wife. There, Clérambault taught music, was an organist and directed the choir. As a composer, during this time, he formed the characteristic French cantata, which in Clérambault became a kind of miniature opera, almost always for voice with accompaniment of harpsichord and viola da gamba, sometimes also with violin and flute. The themes come mainly, according to the taste of the time, from Greek mythology. The stories of Orpheus and Medea sound here like idyllic confessions, transported, spherical and with a wonderful impulse in the melodies. The musicians who perform these works are a silent sensation with this composition. Track listing: 1. Orphee - various performers 2. Medee - various performers 3. Prelude 4.
