Paul (Dick Van Dyke) and Casey (James Garner), two American artists, lead a bohemian life in Paris, but are unable to achieve success. Paul's girlfriend (Elke Sommer) trusts in his talent and, from America, sends him money to pay the rent for the house; But Paul cannot stand this situation of dependency and decides to return to his country.
