Les Misérables tells the story of Jean Valjean who is sent to prison for stealing bread for his family. When he leaves, only one bishop takes pity on him and treats him with charity, but Valjean, in need of money, steals some silver cutlery from him. When he is captured and brought before the bishop, he declares that he gave them to him and, moved by this action, Valjean decides to help others by becoming the mayor of a town.
