Tim Lake (Domhnall Gleeson) discovers at the age of 21 that he, like all the men in his family, has the ability to travel in time. Upon learning that he has this quality, Tim begins to benefit from it to change different aspects of his life. One day, while moving from Cornwall to London for his job as a lawyer, he meets Mary (Rachel McAdams). They both fall in love, but an incident during one of the trips through time means that their meeting never took place. Tim is not willing to let Mary disappear from his life and, finally, after many trips to relive their first meeting, he gets her to notice him again. Once he has managed to win over Mary, Tim continues using his gift to make both of their lives more pleasant, but he ends up realizing that his gift cannot free them from all the mishaps that affect the family throughout their lives. In addition, he also discovers that time travel has its limits and can even be dangerous.
