The film is set in North America in the 1950s, at the beginning of television journalism. It is a true story based on the disputes between a renowned CBS anchor, Edward R. Murrow, and Senator McCarthy and his crusade against communism. From his public platform on a CBS television program, journalist Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn) tries to unmask the falsehoods launched by Senator Joseph McCarthy from his Committee on Un-American Activities, the so-called Witch Hunt.
