Sidney, a journalist for the "New York Times" is sent to Cambodia in 1972 as a war correspondent. In this country, Sidney seeks the help, as a guide and interpreter, of a native: Pran, who becomes his "right arm." In 1975, communist forces overthrew the Cambodian government, protected by the United States, and the two characters took refuge, along with many other journalists, in the English embassy. The revolutionary army allows all foreigners to repatriate, but not natives like Pran, who did not want to accompany his family to the United States to stay helping Sidney in his work, thus finding himself imprisoned in a concentration camp, where he spends for multiple reasons and leads, in short, a subhuman life. Sidney has a terrible anguish, will his friend survive?
