Kapellmeister at Forlì Cathedral, Ignazio Cirri wrote a large amount of liturgical music, but among his works only the Violin Sonatas op.2 and, the subject of this CD, the Organ Sonatas were published. Elegant, refined and rigorous in contrapuntal conduct, they constitute a bridge between the two-movement sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti and the Viennese style of Haydn and Mozart. Massimo Gabba, one of the most important Italian organists, plays them on the magnificent Grisante instrument in the church of San Bonomio in Pozzengo.
