Sonata in F sharp minor for cello and piano op.52; Three Pieces op.69 (Moderato; Andante; Allegro); Two Romanzas op.72 (Andantino con moto; Moderato); Romanza - This album presents the complete works for cello and piano by Giuseppe Martucci, one of the most prominent composers of the Italian instrumental scene of the second half of the 19th century. From a stylistic point of view, Martucci's production was clearly influenced by the romanticism of Schumann and Brahms, although all his works are imbued with an unmistakably Italian luminosity and expressive warmth. These works are presented to us in the authoritative and intense interpretation of the cellist Roberto Trainini and the pianist Massimiliano Ferrati. The most representative work is undoubtedly the Sonata in F sharp minor, a stylistically mature work full of an intensely elegiac vein written by a Martucci who was only twenty-four years old, which deserves to be performed much more frequently in concert halls. Among the other works on the program also stand out the Three Pieces op.69, which Martucci later transcribed for orchestra. Massimiliano Ferrati, piano
