Heinrich Schütz was one of the main protagonists of the transition period between the Renaissance and the Baroque, thanks to his ability to combine the rigorous architecture of the German polyphonic style with the warmth and passion of the Italian melos, which he had the opportunity to know and appreciate. in his youth in Venice, where he went to study with the great Giovanni Gabrieli. For this reason, Johann Sebastian Bach considered him the most eminent of his predecessors.
