He is one of Britain's leading film music composers. He worked alongside Christopher Palmer on the soundtracks for Cape Fear and Taxi Driver, directed by Elmer Bernstein. Goldstein's music is highly evocative, melodious and atmospheric, using elements of minimalist music and folk music. In this new album of the music of Jonathan Goldstein, the famous Balanescu quartet is the center of the ensemble, and is sometimes expanded with pianos, saxophone, harp, percussion, flute, flugelhorn, soprano and organ, creating an incredible variety of colors and instruments sonorous The album is a mix of contemporary classical idioms gradually presenting a developed story, like a cyclorama (the panoramic backdrop used in film and theatre), and was recorded at the Church of Saint Jude-on-the-Hill, Hampstead Garden Suburb, London, renowned for its haunting acoustics. Goldstein began his career as a music director at the Royal Shakespeare Company, after which he assisted legendary film music orchestrator Christopher Palmer on the score for Cape Fear and the re-recording of Bernard Herrmann's classic score. for Taxi Driver, directed by Elmer Bernstein.
