DE BOUSSET: Cantates Spirituelles [CD de audio] Le Tendre Amour and De Bousset

The shipwreck of the Pharaoh; Sixth cantata taken from Psalm 147; First cantata taken from Psalm 83; Abraham - with this record three spiritual cantatas by René de Bousset are presented for the first time in the world, a famous composer and organist who lived in the first half of the 18th century and who, like many of his contemporaries, had the misfortune of falling into forgotten shortly after his death. Based on biblical texts or inspired by episodes from the sacred scriptures, these works could be described from a stylistic point of view as miniature oratorios. The image on the cover of this record refers to the drowning of Pharaoh's army launched in pursuit of the Jews led by Moses beyond the waters of the Red Sea, a story of very dramatic tones that De Bousset evokes with brilliant and very realistic strokes. . These cantatas feature a formation composed of two voices (soprano and baritone) and a large formation that includes a transverse flute, an oboe, a violin, a viola da gamba, a harpsichord and a theorbo, and are performed by the excellent Ensemble Le Tendre Amour.
