First of all, a word about the author: Giovanni Battista Buonamente was a Franciscan priest who managed to gain great fame throughout Europa thanks to his remarkable skills as a violinist, singer and choir director. Born in Mantua, Buonamente soon left his hometown to move to the Vienna court of Ferdinand II and then settle in Assisi, where he assumed the position of chapelmaster of the Sacred Convent. Among his works, several collections of instrumental works have been preserved, which are inserted in the style of the first Italian baroque and include, among other things, dances such as the brando, the gagliarda and the current. In addition to presenting a series of almost unknown works, this album has the merit of offering the opportunity to listen to some instruments found in the Sacred Convent, which give the performance of the Helianthus Ensemble directed by the flutist Laura Pontecorvo a charm from other times.
