Fred (O'Brien) is not a detective, a secret agent or a philosopher. He is an ordinary guy who is approaching 30 years old and who is going through an existential crisis now that he finds himself on the precipice of true maturity. He is torn between several questions: Should he commit to his lifelong girlfriend? Should I start working in a company to pay off debts and discard the dream of becoming an artist? Should you paint the walls of your new apartment turquoise blue or baby blue? After an accidental encounter with a forgotten friend from his youth, Fred literally and philosophically travels back in time. Little by little he begins to unravel a hidden mystery about a missing girl, a drug called Mercury, and a terrifying creature that has followed him into adulthood.
Synopsis
About to enter his thirties, Fred Fitzell suffers an identity crisis accentuated by his mother's serious health condition. The visions of his time as a student are increasingly frequent, as well as those of an alternative existence in which he shares his life with Cindy, the young woman with whom he was in love and who disappeared without a trace. Little by little, Fred remembers how his group of friends consumed Mercury in its purest form, a drug that makes one aware of all the parallel lives in which one exists and that allows one to choose between them in space and time. Fred decides to turn to Mercury to choose what life he wants to live.
