Londres, 1888. En el barrio de Whitechapel se producen una serie de violentos y sanguinarios crímenes que tienen algo en común: las víctimas son siempre prostitutas asesinadas en oscuros callejones. El asesino será pronto conocido con el nombre de Jack el Destripador. En Baker Street, Sherlock Holmes y su ayudante el Doctor Watson empiezan a investigar por su cuenta los horribles crímenes que tienen aterrorizada a la ciudad.
