Patrick Chamusso is a flesh-and-blood hero of South Africa's recent history. Patrick dearly loves his wife Precious and his two young daughters. He works as a manager at the Secunda refinery, a symbol of South Africa's self-sufficiency at a time when the rest of the world was rising up against the oppressive apartheid system.
The astute and charismatic colonel of the Security Department, Vos, tries to maintain order in increasingly frequent explosive situations since the outlawed African National Congress rallies the black population against apartheid. He is also concerned for the safety of his wife and two daughters. The world in which the colonel moves has little to do with that of the Chamusso family.
Suddenly, Patrick's quiet life falls apart when he is accused of sabotaging the Secunda refinery and arrested in June 1980. He has an alibi, but he doesn't want Precious to find out that he was unfaithful to her long ago, and he also wants to keep his job. . He is not prepared to endure the brutal interrogations to which he is subjected by Vos' men. The colonel's harassment grows and Patrick watches in despair as Precious is imprisoned and tortured. The police soon release the couple, but Patrick's goals are no longer the same. He leaves his family and joins the ANC.
The quiet man is now a member of an armed organization fighting to defend his people and his country. He ends up planning an important and dangerous hit against the Secunda refinery, risking his life and his future.
