When a neophyte priest, Thomas Dagget (Elias Koteas), is haunted by disconcerting and horrible visions, he leaves the church at the same altar where he is to be ordained. Years later, becoming a homicide detective assigned to a dark murder case, he discovers a series of clues with dark religious overtones.
