Rocklin (John Wayne) arrives in town to start a new job, however, he finds the rancher who was going to hire him murdered. He then meets the pretty and young Clara Cardell (Audrey Long), the victim's niece, who is about to inherit her uncle's ranch. He will also meet the tough horsewoman Arly Harolday (Ella Raines) who owns the neighboring ranch.
