Many Americans lived in anxiety over the threat of a nuclear attack by the Russians. Educational videos were made on how to protect oneself, what to do and how to protect oneself from dangerous atomic radiation. The film industry would see a vein in this stage of history and would take advantage of it with the creation of this new subgenre of Z series. LA BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS - The popular former wrestling wrestler Tor Johnson would face the decline of his film career in this production directed by Coleman Francis, a friend and collaborator of Ed Wood, with whom Tor Johnson had worked three times. The portly and good-natured Johnson would play Javorsky, a scientist who escapes from Russia to take refuge and work for the American government. When Javorsky is being transferred to the Yucca Flats atomic testing ground, the Russian spies who are tracking him manage to find him and try to kill him, when suddenly, an atomic bomb explodes very close by.
