

One morning, Harold Fry leaves the house to put a letter in the mailbox. Recently retired, Harold responds to a letter from an old friend and co-worker who, after a silence of almost twenty years, has just informed him that she is admitted to a hospital about to die. When Harold prepares to send the letter, a sudden impulse compels him to carry the message himself to its recipient on an improvised trip on foot from one end of the country to the other.
