On the eve of the Danish elections, Kasper Juul, media advisor to the leader of the moderate party, Birgitte Nyborg, obtains confidential information that compromises the Prime Minister, Lars Hesselboe. When Nyborg refuses to use it, Juul offers it to Michael Laugesen, leader of the opposition and the Labor Party, who uses it in the final televised debate, causing a great political commotion. Hesselboe loses the majority, but Laugesen's use of confidential information also undermines Labor support. Laugesen ends up expelled from his party, which is divided in internal debates. The minority parties win, and Birgitte Nyborg manages to lead a coalition government with the Labor Party despite having these more seats. Throughout the season, Nyborg will have to face the challenges of Danish politics, negotiate with foreign leaders and hold together a cabinet that threatens to fall apart. When Labor rises in the polls, Nyborg sacrifices his friend and colleague Bent Sejrø to give them the finance ministry and thus silence them.
