The story centers on Tetsuya Tsurugi, an orphan boy who grew up with no one but Kenzo Kabuto, who is the father of Mazinger Z pilot Koji Kabuto. Kenzo Kabuto is the creator of a new and improved version of Mazinger , created from his father's version of Mazinger Z, with a strong structure and designed to fight against the new enemies of humanity, the Mikenes Empire, led by by the Emperor of Darkness and his army of robots. Kenzo gave the Great Mazinger to Tetsuya to pilot, who is accompanied by a girl, Jun Hono, in his female robot Venus A. With the original Mazinger destroyed, Koji traveled to America to study space exploration and left the defense of Japan. in the hands of Tetsuya and the Fortress of Science. Tetsuya and Great Mazinger 's training is completed just as Koji required their help in the Battle against the Beasts of Mikenes. Tetsuya fights against the Beasts and even their powerful generals, eventually facing an arduous battle against Mikene's military leader, The Black General (Ankoku Daishogun). After being defeated by the Great Mazinger , Mykene's forces are led by Dr. Inferno, the villain from Mazinger Z, who was revived and is now the Grand Marshal of Darkness.
