Norman Granz initiated the concept of "Jazz at the Philharmonic" in the 1940s. The idea was to bring together the band leaders and soloists who were normally seen separately in small clubs in one place. For this Montreux concert in 1975, musicians gathered around the great Benny Carter for a night full of inspiring improvisations.
