Quartet in A minor Wq93; Quartet in D major Wq94; Duet in E minor Wq140; Quartet in G major Wq95; Triosonata in A major Wq146 - These splendid quartets were composed by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach a few months before he died. These works were not written to satisfy the requests of a client, but to leave subsequent ones a kind of musical testament, the purest and most sincere fruit of the genius of one of the most eminent composers of the second half of the 18th century. It is no coincidence that in these works the most important role has been assigned to the flute, an instrument for which Emanuel wrote works of great importance throughout the course of his career. In these works characterized by great expressive depth and acute melancholy, the flute is accompanied by the violin, the viola, the cello and the basso continuo performed by the harpsichord. The protagonist of this splendid album is Laura Pontecorvo, first flute of the famous Italian Concerto by Rinaldo Alessandrini and a prominent member of many other ensembles of original instruments such as the Academia Byzantina, Europa Galante and El Arte del Arco. The Helianthus Ensemble (Elisa Citterio, violin and viola; Francesco Galligioni, cello; Guido Morini, harpsichord).
