Polibio Fumagalli was one of the most important exponents of Italian organ music of the 19th century. He held important positions in Milan, as organ professor at the Conservatory and organist of S. Celso. In close contact with the famous organ builder Giuseppe Bernasconi, he contributed to developing the symphonic dimension of the organ, perfecting the registers in the reproduction of the timbre of all the instruments of the orchestra. This new recording presents two of Fumagalli's organ sonatas, in classical-romantic style, as well as the complete “Ascética Musicale” cycle, pieces of great charm and lyricism, which use all the resources of the “orchestral” organ, performed with great fantasy by Marco Ruggeri in two historical Bernasconi organs from 1885 and 1892, the specifications of which are described in the libretto. Ruggeri has already demonstrated his affinity with this repertoire in his previous recordings of Morandi (Bril 95333) and Petrali (Bril 95160).
