Handel's Music of the Waters is one of the composer's most popular works and consists of three suites. The Music of the Waters is rightly one of the most popular baroque orchestral works: its many excellent melodies, lively dances and good humour. On July 17, 1717, during a pleasure trip by the English King George I along the Thames, the piece was presented. The orchestra sailed in their own boats behind the royal boat. George I was so pleased with the music that he ordered the work to be repeated 3 times. On this CD we listen to the complete work. The Consort of London was a small expert chamber ensemble that played baroque music on modern instruments. The tempos seem especially adaptable and comfortable... The play of the two violins and winds is crisp, full of temperament (....) In every sense, this is the best recording of this music to date. Grammophon
