Nicolo Paganini developed the technique of playing the violin to an unprecedented level of virtuosity, which until today has only been achieved by few. In addition to his violin performances (the solo caprices, violin concertos and fantasies) he composed chamber music in the classical style, injecting the formal structures of Haydn and Mozart with pre-romantic expression. The first violin part of this wonderful quartet is essentially soloist and alluding to the diabolical virtuoso Paganini, who was in his time. A great new recording from 2011.
