The news of Norbert Burgmüller's untimely death, which occurred in 1836 at the age of only 26, was received with profound sadness by his contemporaries Mendelssohn and Schumann, with the latter comparing his death to that of Schubert in a similarly premature manner. In the few years of his career, Burgmüller managed to stand out as one of the greatest talents of his generation and left behind a considerable production, equally divided between orchestral, chamber and vocal works. With this splendid record, Brilliant Classics pays tribute to this genius by presenting his liederistic corpus and the Sonata in F minor Op. 28, a very pleasant page that is clearly influenced by the styles of Weber and Hummel. The lieder, on the other hand, present a freshness and vitality very close to those of Schubert's masterpieces, with the addition of some very original elements, such as certain bold modulations. This album was recorded in the wonderful acoustics of Villa Contucci in Montepulciano by soprano Eleonora Contucci and Costantino Mastroprimiano - a soloist well known to those familiar with the Brilliant Classics catalog - who plays an extraordinary Graf fortepiano from 1826, always owned by the family Contucci.
