Luzzasco Luzzaschi, a Ferrarese composer, was one of the leading keyboard composers of the Italian Renaissance. After entering the service of Duke Alfonso II, one of the greatest art patrons of the time, Luzzasco developed an entirely new style, arranging madrigals with complex four-voice writing that even tested the best soloists of the time: architectures of monumental counterpoint and extremely florid ornamentation. These practically unknown works are proposed to us in the expressive and historically informed interpretation of the Italian harpsichordist and organist Matteo Messori, considered one of the most inspired interpreters of the Renaissance and Baroque repertoire, who for the Dutch label has already recorded the complete works of Heinrich Schütz, the Clavierübung and the Art of the Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach, obtaining very flattering reviews from the specialized press around the world (Fonoforum and Diapason). The booklet for this album includes extensive liner notes about the composer and the works performed, written by an Italian musicologist specialized in this repertoire, the technical data of the instruments used and Messori's biography.
