Arthur Grumiaux is undoubtedly one of the most important violinists of the 20th century. Coming from the famous Belgian violin school, he was considered the natural heir of Vieuxtemps, Ysaye and César Thompson. His extreme musicality and his ability to express the deepest emotions, his interpretation, which combined basic musical virtues in a unique way, earned him the respect and admiration of his musical colleagues. This box set presents ten original albums from 1956 to 1961, all of them exceptional recordings such as those of Beethoven's violin sonatas with Clara Haskill, notable in the performance history of violin literature. Equally legendary are the recordings of Bach's sonatas and partitas, which have earned Grumiaux a reputation as an excellent Bach interpreter. Mozart's sonatas Nos. 40 and 42, as well as the concertos KV 216 and 219 from 1956 and 1961 respectively, the Brahms concerto, as well as works by Chausson, Lalo and Ravel complete the acoustic portrait of an artist whose LP recordings They have a permanent place in the “Must Have” section. As a bonus, we have included Stravinsky's D major concerto on a recording under Fricsay's direction from 1951.
