After being released from prison, Charlie Croker (Michael Caine) sets out to execute a carefully organized plan: steal a shipment of gold from the streets of Turin through a gigantic traffic jam. To do this, he has the help of the brilliant criminal Mister Bridger (Noël Coward) and a gang of criminals. Once the robbery has been carried out, the difficult thing is to get the loot out of the country, because the police and the mafia are hot on their heels.
