Wladyslaw Szpilman, a famous Jewish pianist of Polish origin, manages to avoid deportation, but is forced to live overcrowded in the heart of the devastated Warsaw ghetto. There he will fight to stay alive, enduring all kinds of suffering. When he manages to escape, he takes refuge in the ruins of the capital. A German officer, who appreciates his music, will help him survive.
