Hank Lee is an intelligent, somewhat cynical smuggler who lives off doing shady deals in the city of Hong Kong. His intelligence has so far prevented him from being caught. Meanwhile, Jane Hoyt is a desperate woman, searching for her missing husband in communist China. After the authorities refuse to help him, he decides to hire the services of the smuggler, since he realizes that he is the man with the most experience in the area, and therefore the most suitable to guide him in his task.
