Plot: Giuliana Hermil is a woman settled in the conventionality of a marriage that she feels is broken. She has long suspected that her husband, Tullio Hermil, has a mistress. He, acclimatized to a philosophy of joy and enjoyment, dedicates himself to training in fencing, reading, and to his passionate love, his lover Teresa Raffo. The spark of desire for his wife will not arise in Tullio until he finds out about the relationship she has started with a young writer named Filippo d'Arborio. When social pressure and jealousy dominate him, the lost carnal passion will arise, but a tragic event will occur: Giuliana becomes pregnant with Filippo.
