Marshal Gilles de Lancré (Paul Naschy) returns home after years of conquests and war exploits in 15th century France. Tired and ignored by his king, he will squander all his fortune and his sanity, perfidiously manipulated by his concubine Georgelle (Norma Sebre) and an evil alchemist (Eduardo Calvo), in the search for the "philosopher's stone" carrying out all kinds of atrocities to obtain his purpose.

Second iteration of Paul Naschy with one of his most iconic characters: Gilles de Rais/Alaric de Marnac. Escaping from the fantastic style of the previous one (“Fright arises from the grave”) and embracing the most Hollywood cloak and dagger in the style of Errol Flynn, but without giving up blood and eroticism, Paul Naschy signs one of his most atypical scripts under the expert direction of the great Leon Klimovsky (“Walpurgis Night”, “The Rise of the Dead”).
