On June 1, 1967, The Beatles released their groundbreaking studio album, “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” Described by Rolling Stone magazine as “the most important rock and roll album ever made…”, it left an indelible mark in the '60s and became one of the most influential and best-selling albums of all time. To celebrate this, the documentary “It Was 50 Years Ago Today! The Beatles: Sgt Pepper & Beyond ,” directed by Alan G. Parker, was released worldwide on September 8. The documentary examines the twelve months (August 1966 to August 1967) that are arguably the most crucial in the band's career, a year in which they went from being the most traveled band in the world to becoming the most most innovative studio studios on the planet, pushing the boundaries of what could be achieved in the studio. A devoted fan since the age of nine, the film's director, Alan G. Parker, set out to explore this period by filming interviews with former employees, musicians, family and journalists, including Simon Napier-Bell (manager), Hunter Davies (biographer official), Tony Bramwell (Brian Epstein's right-hand man), Pete Best (former drummer of the Beatles), Freda Kelly (official secretary of the fan club) and Philip Norman (biographer of John Lennon and Paul McCartney), among other names. These stories are supported by a wealth of stunning archive footage, much of which has not been seen since its first broadcast. Presented on a double DVD and Blu-ray with Spanish subtitles.
