Detroit detective Axel Foley learns from the TV news that his friend Andrew Bogomil, captain of the Beverly Hills police, has been shot by a woman. When she goes to visit him at the hospital, she meets his daughter Jan. With the help of two officers who are friends of hers, she tries to locate the culprit, even though Police Chief Harold Lutz has tried to find some reason to fire the two officers.
