Rudolf is a black kitten who lives happily in Gifu as a girl's pet and whose peaceful existence is cut short when he accidentally leaves his house and ends up on a truck that takes him to bustling Tokyo. There, he is saved from being crushed to death under a truck by a cat apparently named GotHeap, who rules the rest of the neighborhood cats with authority and takes him under his wing. Together with his savior, Rudolf begins to learn how to fend for himself and the benefits of learning human writing to get food and be able to read the highway signs that take him back to his home. But first he must deal with many other dangers, such as the bulldog named Diablo who terrifies all the cats in the neighborhood.
