Synopsis
Acclaimed paleontologist Mary Anning (Kate Winslet), leaving behind an era in which she was famous for her discoveries, works on her own in Lyme Regis , a town on the coast of southern England, searching for common fossils to sell to tourists and earn a living. thus a livelihood for her and her mother. One day, a tourist named Roderick Murchison offers Mary a large sum of money to take care of his young wife, Charlotte (Saoirse Ronan), who is recovering from a personal tragedy. Mary, who lives on the poverty line, cannot afford to refuse the offer. Despite the abyss that exists between both women due to belonging to opposite worlds, they will discover that they can offer each other what they were both looking for: the awareness that they are not alone. Thus they begin a relationship that will challenge all social conventions and change the course of their lives.
