After his triumphant time in Mack Sennett's Keystone, in 1915 Charles Chaplin signed a substantial contract with Essanay Film Manufacturing Company. Over the course of just over a year he filmed 16 films in which he was already in charge of writing the scripts and directing them, in addition to being the absolute protagonist.
The 28 titles that he shot for Essanay and Mutual between 1915 and 1917 have been restored to 2 K, from new unpublished or forgotten materials located in film libraries and private collections around the world under the auspices of the Chaplin Association, and have been incorporated a new soundtrack. Thanks to the work of Lobster Films, the Cineteca di Bologna and Blackhawk and with the support of Michel Hazanavicius, Amitabh Bachchan, Alexander Payne, Martin Scorsese's Film Foundation and the Georges Lucas Family Foundation, among others, a century after its release These undisputed masterpieces once again shine in all their splendor.
