Joan Graham is the secretary of the district attorney of a big city. However, she is in love with a known criminal, named Eddie Taylor, because she believes that he is a good person who has lacked luck in his life. Thus, she uses her influence to get him released from prison and tries to get him back on the right path by marrying him. However, Eddie is accused and convicted of a bank robbery that he did not commit and in which six people died. He is sentenced to die in the electric chair. On the eve of his execution, he manages to escape thanks to a smuggled weapon that has come into his hands. During the escape, he accidentally kills the prison chaplain.
