Woman Obsessed [DVD]

Mary Sharron (Susan Hayward ) is an attractive widow, mother of an eight-year-old boy, who after losing her husband in a fire has to take care of the family farm, located in a remote area of the Canadian forests. To do this, she hires Fred Carter (Stephen Boyd), a handsome but taciturn itinerant worker - and also a widower - with whom she ends up falling in love. When Mary announces that she is marrying Fred, her son Robbie (Dennis Holmes) opposes the union. After the wedding, Fred treats the boy harshly because he wants to prepare him for the arduous life that awaits him, which creates friction and frustration. The day Mary discovers that she is pregnant, the boy and his stepfather get into a violent fight.
With his usual talent for tackling all film genres, Henry Hathaway ( The Sea Demon, Prince Valiant, The Courier from Hell, Our House in Indiana ) brings forward this wild psychological melodrama, highlighted by the extraordinary performance of Susan Hayward , for those years at the height of his career, and a brilliant photograph that brilliantly portrays the immense forests of Canada and the violent force of nature.
