Alan Howard (Bogarde) goes to Africa to visit his brother, but when he arrives he learns that he has been murdered by the Mau Mau. He then decides to stay to take charge of his brother's farm and, also, to resume his love relationship with María (McKenna), a young woman who lives in Africa with her parents.
