In the era of splendor of Tsarist Russia, popular revolts took place against the tyranny exercised by the leaders of a country largely plunged into poverty in the most humble areas. For army deserters, insurgents and rebels, prison awaits, as in the case of Petr Griniev. During the trip that must lead him to one of the feared gulags, Griniev becomes friends with Captain Miranov, who commands a rebellion movement but does not have sufficient logistical support to safely fight a battle against the tsarist army. While waiting to receive more reinforcements, Petr Griniev gains Miranov's trust and, at the same time, feels attracted to the Captain's daughter, the beautiful Masha. While Miranov opposes this relationship because he considers that Griniev is not the right person for his daughter, the popular revolt intensifies, as does the desire on the part of Pugachev, a man from the countryside, to establish himself as the tsar of the area.
