John's (John C. Reilly) absence of a social life and the fact that his ex-wife, Jamie (Catherine Keener), is getting married again, has marked his fatal destiny as a divorcee until, finally, he finds the woman of his dreams, the beautiful and passionate Molly (Marisa Tomei). The chemistry between the two is immediate, however, Molly is inexplicably reluctant to let their relationship go beyond their visits to John's house. Deeply confused, John decides to follow her home and discovers the other man in Molly's life: her son Cyrus (Jonah Hill), who is not willing to share his mother with anyone, especially John. John and Cyrus become entangled in a conflict of intellects over the woman they both love, and, it seems, when the war ends, only one can remain.
